Who are General practitioners and how they will help patients?
General practitioners (GPs) treat acute and chronic illnesses/ailments. They will have vital knowledge of a broad range of illnesses, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages, at all walks of life, and with all types of medical issues and concerns.
They provide preventive care and medical services for urgent and specialist treatment.
Sometimes patients attend the GP surgery with an urgent life-threatening condition and for these cases, the General practitioners will provide life-saving treatment until an ambulance and further help arrives.
GPs play a major role in metabolic diseases, cardiovascular, respiratory diseases, mental health problems, asthma, hypertension, diabetes, etc.
They will perform a patient’s clinical examinations to assess, diagnose, and monitor a patient’s condition. GPs will provide patient consultations at home and within the surgery.
Is the General Medicine and General Physician are the same?
Internal medicine physicians or internists are specialists and well trained who treat acute and chronic illnesses, provide preventive care and health education to the patients.
Internists will apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment, and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness.
In general, family physicians possess unique attitudes, skills, knowledge, and are trained to diagnose and treat an entire spectrum of medical issues for patients of all ages and they often specialize in treating children, women, the elderly, etc. whereas the Internal medicine physicians will develop deeper training on common adult health conditions.
